Abstract

Aesthetic taste is one of the most important spiritual qualities of the human personality — the capacity to perceive beauty, appreciate it, and derive pleasure from it. Although various forms of art contribute to shaping this capacity, music holds a special place among them because it acts directly upon human emotions and worldview. This article examines the role of musical perception in the formation of aesthetic taste, drawing on both pedagogical theory and the authors’ own classroom practice. It argues that aesthetic taste is not innate but is cultivated through systematic education that begins in childhood, and that the perception of music — through its rhythm, melody, and harmony — enriches the inner world of students, stimulates creative imagination, and strengthens moral values. Psychological research indicates that music perception activates both hemispheres of the brain, intensifies emotional responses, and supports the development of aesthetic sensibility. Drawing on examples from Azerbaijani classical, folk, and film music, as well as folk dance, the article demonstrates that the integrated use of music and movement accelerates and stabilizes the development of aesthetic taste. The study concludes that musical perception is a cornerstone of aesthetic education, contributing not only to students’ artistic development but also to their emotional regulation, cultural literacy, and harmonious growth as individuals.
