Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital communication has transformed the ways in which languages evolve and spread across societies. English, as the dominant global lingua franca, has become the primary medium through which individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds interact online. This article explores the role of multiculturalism in shaping the evolution of English in the digital age, focusing on lexical innovation and communicative transformation. Drawing upon contemporary literature in sociolinguistics, digital communication studies, and World Englishes, the paper examines how multicultural online environments facilitate the emergence of new vocabulary, discourse practices, and communication strategies. The findings suggest that digital platforms accelerate language change by enabling unprecedented levels of intercultural interaction, fostering linguistic creativity, and promoting the global diffusion of emerging forms of English. The study concludes that multicultural digital communication has become a major force in the ongoing evolution of English and will likely continue shaping its future development.
